About this game

Max Pirate is a top-down Game Boy action game about a captain arriving in a port town overrun by the undead. Your weapons are a close-range anchor and a cannon called Bessie. The opening room is empty: head through the passage at the top to reach the first enemies.

Use the arrow keys to walk and face a direction. Tap X to swing the anchor, or Z to fire the cannon along your facing direction. Cannon shots consume the supply shown at the bottom of the screen, so use the anchor when an enemy is close enough. Finish an attack before trying to launch another.

Enter starts the game and pauses or resumes a run. Watch your hearts while moving between rooms; letting enemies crowd around the captain can end a run quickly.

Quick tips

Leave the empty starting room through the passage at the top.

Face an enemy before attacking; the cannon fires in the direction you face.

Watch the ammunition indicator and use the anchor to conserve shots.
