About this game
Math Rescue turns arithmetic into a platform adventure. Developed by Redwood Games and published by Apogee in 1992, it follows a child trying to recover numbers stolen by Gruzzles. Benny Butterfly supplies slime to help deal with the creatures along the way.
A problem appears during play, and the level contains numbers to find. Work out the answer while navigating platforms and avoiding trouble. Before starting, you can choose the available arithmetic operation, whether to include word problems and a difficulty setting.
First enter a player name, choose a character and work through the exercise settings. Left and Right move, Up or Alt jumps or climbs, and Down moves down. Space or Ctrl uses the slime action; H opens the built-in help and Esc returns to the menu. Phones can use More keys / keyboard for the initial name entry.
This is Apogee’s original DOS 2.0 shareware Part 1. The menu offers addition and subtraction here; multiplication and division are marked for Parts 2 and 3. Those later parts are not included. The exercises and game menus remain in English.
