About this game

Quato turns a sliding-tile board into a word game. Move 24 letters around a five-by-five grid, using its single empty square to make four- or five-letter words across or down. Each move checks the affected row and column against the included dictionary.

A round lasts three minutes. Letters have different values, and longer words multiply their total. The displayed bonus word earns triple its usual score; using every letter shown in the letter list earns an additional bonus. The same word counts only once per round.

This is Soleau Software’s 2.1 shareware release from 1995; the manual dates the first version to 1993. Original loading delays remain. Dictionary editing and faster loading were registered-version features and are not included. The game and its dictionary are in English.
