About this game
The Purple Night is a GBA platform game by Corwin and Gwilym, with music by Sam Williams. You guide a lost soul back to the afterlife through a landscape of dark silhouettes and purple skies. The sword is also your health bar: taking damage makes it shorter. The creator describes the trade-off as less safety and reach in exchange for greater mobility and quicker attacks.
Use Left and Right to move, X to jump and Z to swing the sword. These are the browser’s mappings for GBA A and B. The opening section provides low platforms where you can practise jumping before approaching enemies. A stationary attack is useful for learning the sword’s reach without walking into danger.
Pay attention to the sword’s size as you progress, since a shorter blade changes the space you can cover. The game presents its action visually, with little text to interrupt play. Start with separate jumps and attacks while getting used to the timing.
