About this game
Caveman is Neil Chinnery's side-scrolling platform game, built with DJGPP and Allegro. The supplied game has three levels, a club-wielding hero and a score-and-lives display. Move through the landscape, jump onto platforms and collect items while avoiding enemies. The archive also includes the original C source and a separate level editor.
Press S at the title screen to begin. During play, S and D move left and right, Space jumps, and M swings the club. Combine a direction with Space to jump sideways. These letter keys are the game's own controls; the arrow keys are not their replacements. Esc returns from a level to the title screen, where S starts a fresh game.
Power-ups can alter speed, jumping or vulnerability. One temporarily reverses both pairs of controls: S and D exchange directions, while M becomes jump and Space becomes club. Watch the POWER-UP countdown if the keys suddenly behave differently.
The original README documents a crash when jumping left at the extreme left edge of a level. Avoid that manoeuvre. This compatibility version preserves the original game program and level data, including that known limitation; it does not repair the author's game logic.

Quick tips
Use S and D for movement. The opening text also scrolls the original controls across the bottom of the title screen.
If a power-up reverses the controls, swap S with D and Space with M until its countdown ends.
Avoid jumping left against the far-left level boundary: the author documents a crash there in the original README.
Pressing Esc during play returns to the title. Starting again with S resets the game rather than resuming that run.
