About this game
Crystal Caves is Apogee Software’s 1991 platform game about Mylo Steamwitz, a would-be entrepreneur who heads to Altair to finance his next venture. The mine is divided into caves that combine jumping, shooting and small routing puzzles. Clearing a cave means collecting all its crystals before leaving through the airlock.
The main mineshaft links sixteen caves, which can be tackled in different orders. Colored doors and their matching levers control your route, while the rocket pistol also serves as an action button for switches. Some caves change the gravity, so a familiar-looking jump can behave differently once you leave the entrance.
Press N at the main menu to start. Left and Right move Mylo, Ctrl jumps, and Alt fires or operates a nearby switch. F1 opens the help menu, including keyboard settings and the game’s own save and restore options. Mylo can take three hits in a cave; health is replenished when a new level starts.
This is the original DOS shareware first episode from the 1.0a distribution. The other two episodes and the later HD remake are not included.

Quick tips
Collect every crystal before heading for the airlock; reaching the door alone does not finish a cave.
Stand in front of a lever or switch and use Alt. Watch the color of the door it controls.
Your rocket supply is limited. Shoot obstacles that block your route and avoid wasting shots on enemies you can bypass.
