About this game
Kobo Deluxe is a scrolling arcade shooter built around a small ship, eight-way movement and hostile bases that spread across the map. Enemy craft chase, circle and fire at you while you work along the base’s branching structures toward its cores. Your weapons fire forward and backward, so positioning matters as much as holding the trigger. The original game includes 50 stages and several skill levels.
David Olofson developed Kobo Deluxe from Akira Higuchi’s XKobo, with contributions from Masanao Izumo, Erik Auerswald and others. This browser edition uses Kobo Deluxe 0.5.1 and the community SDL2 port by ruohoruotsi and contributors. It preserves the original artwork and synthesized sound. It is a source build for modern browsers, not a DOS executable; the in-game menus remain in English.
Press Enter to open the menu. On your first visit, confirm a player name, choose Start Game and select a skill level; Newbie gives you a gentler starting point. The arrows steer, including diagonals when combined, and Ctrl or Shift fires. Enter confirms menu choices, Esc opens the menu and P pauses. The website’s shared touch controls support movement and firing together, with menu keys kept available.
Profiles, scores, settings and completed-stage progress stay in this browser on this site. They are not snapshots of your exact position: an unfinished fight cannot be resumed where you left it. Use Quit Kobo Deluxe from the native menu before leaving when possible, and avoid clearing browser data if you want to keep your profile. Sound starts muted and can be enabled with the player’s sound button.
The browser work repairs the build and audio format, adds safe input release and host pause, and saves native files in an isolated browser database. Original credits, licenses and corresponding source are available below. First-stage controls, audio, pause and profile restoration have been checked; full completion and physical-phone performance remain unverified.

Quick tips
Choose Newbie for your first run; Classic preserves the older, less forgiving rules.
Combine two direction keys to move diagonally. On a phone, hold a direction and Fire together.
Watch the heat indicators when firing continuously; brief pauses let the weapons cool.
Destroying a core restores some health, and clearing a stage restores more. Do not expect every cleared stage to refill the health bar.
Use the Esc menu to quit cleanly. The saved profile keeps scores and completed-stage progress, not an exact-position save.
